Fundamentals of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) is used for the determination (both qualitative and quantitative) of around 70 elements. These techniques exhibit very high sensitivities, of parts per million (ppm) to parts per billion (ppb) and several other advantages such as ease of use, speed and high selectivity. This webcast will present the fundamental theory of AAS, and will provide a good overview of the technique and common instrument designs. Advanced topics like background correction techniques and selected applications will also be explored.

Topics Include:

  • Introduction to AAS
  • Basic principles of AAS
  • Analysis techniques
  • Flame AAS
  • Graphite furnace AAS
  • Hydride generation AAS
  • Advanced topics
  • Drift correction
  • Background correction
  • Selected applications
